Key Findings from UK Covid Inquiry Report on Vaccines Released

The 274-page report, the fourth published by the inquiry, detailed how approximately 130 million doses were administered in a year, with over 90% of people aged 12 and above receiving immunization. Authorities innovated with pop-up clinics and community partnerships to boost uptake. The inquiry noted that misinformation online not only damaged Covid vaccine uptake but also affected general confidence in other childhood vaccines.

The report also touched on the UK's significant role in identifying effective treatments, such as the steroid drug dexamethasone, which was quickly found to reduce fatal lung damage in Covid patients. This treatment is estimated to have saved 22,000 lives in the UK and a million globally. While serious long-term health problems from vaccines were rare, the inquiry called for urgent reform of the Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme, stating it is "not sufficiently supportive" for the small group who experienced serious injury or death.
