Liverpool fear lengthy lay-off for Ekitike

Hugo Ekitike was forced off in the first half of the match against Paris St-Germain. Head coach Arne Slot expressed concern post-match, stating that the injury "didn't look good" and that losing a player is a recurring challenge for the team this season. The injury is particularly hard for Ekitike, who made his France debut in September and was set to join Didier Deschamps' squad for the World Cup.
Ekitike joined Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt last July and quickly became a key player. In January, he became only the second player in Liverpool's history, after Kenny Dalglish, to score in five different competitions during their debut campaign. His potential lengthy absence adds to Liverpool's ongoing injury woes, with Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley already out for the rest of the season, and Alisson Becker and Wataru Endo also sidelined.
