SantaCon organiser charged with stealing $1m from charity pub crawl

Stefan Pildes, president of the popular SantaCon event, faces charges for allegedly diverting more than half of the $2.7 million raised from 2019 to April 2026. Prosecutors with the Southern District of New York claim Pildes used the funds, intended for charity, to finance a lavish lifestyle. This included hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on concert tickets, fine dining, luxury vacations, and home renovations.Specific allegations detail Pildes's expenditures, such as $365,000 for renovating a lakefront property in New Jersey, $124,000 for a luxury Manhattan apartment, and nearly $3,000 for a birthday dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant. US Attorney Jay Clayton stated Pildes "took advantage of New Yorkers' generous holiday spirit to finance his lifestyle." Pildes, from New Jersey, is charged with one count of wire fraud, which carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
