Navy Medicine supports successful Artemis II recovery mission aboard USS John P. Murtha
U.S. Navy medical personnel, including a team from Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) China Lake, recently supported the successful recovery of NASA’s Artemis II crew and the Orion spacecraft. Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Brian Romero, assigned to the Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Unit (NMRTU) and Branch Health Clinic (BHC) China Lake, was part of the En-Route Care System (ERCS) 11 team. These expeditionary medicine teams, which also included ERCS 2, 3, and Expeditionary Resuscitative Surgical System 14 (ERSS), comprised personnel from various Navy Medicine commands. The ERCS is a two-person team providing medical care during transport of critically injured or ill stabilized patients, while the ERSS is a seven-person mobile surgical and trauma team offering life and limb-saving care close to the point of injury. The recovery mission took place aboard the amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) on April 11.
